All versions of the Nuna PIPA—including the PIPA, PIPA RX, PIPA Lite, PIPA Lite R, PIPA Lite RX and PIPA Lite LX—come with a car seat base.

You cannot buy a Nuna PIPA car seat without the base, as Nuna packages the car seat and base together and does not sell the car seat on its own without a base.

However, you can purchase additional car seat bases separately if you plan to use your PIPA series infant car seat in more than one vehicle and would like to have a base in each vehicle.

Can you install the Nuna PIPA without the base?

The Nuna PIPA, PIPA RX and PIPA Lite RX can be installed without the base.

Three of the four Lite models—the PIPA Lite, PIPA Lite R and PIPA Lite LX—always require the base for installation, as the car seats do not include guides for installing with a seatbelt. The PIPA Lite RX is the only Lite model that offers a seatbelt installation option.

Installing your Nuna car seat without the base can be especially helpful if you and baby are taking a taxi, ride share, or traveling in another vehicle that you don't normally use.

The seatbelt-only install can also be helpful for air travel, as the PIPA, PIPA RX and PIPA Lite RX are FAA-approved without the base. If you travel often or live in a city where you often take taxis and rideshares, the PIPA, PIPA RX and PIPA Lite RX will be the best options for you.
