The lightest infant car seats currently on the market are the Nuna PIPA aire RX and the UPPAbaby Aria.

Nuna has always been known to offer lightweight infant car seats and a range of PIPA options of varying weights and features. Recently, Nuna has simplified their PIPA series line of car seats and offers the PIPA aire RX, PIPA urbn (only sold as a travel system), and the PIPA RX. 

Total weight considered, the lightest Nuna car seat is the Nuna PIPA aire RX, weighing less than 7 pounds. The Nuna PIPA aire RX features Aeroflex™ foam that is cleverly lightweight, resilient, and minimizes force transferred to baby. The PIPA aire RX is 1.4 pounds lighter than the PIPA RX and a little less than a pound lighter than the PIPA urbn.

Both the PIPA aire RX and PIPA RX use the RELX base, while the PIPA urbn is a baseless car seat that can only be installed baseless. All current PIPA models include FAA approval for use on an airplane.

One note: Measurements for Nuna car seats do not include the canopy or infant insert. With those accessories, Nuna car seats are still lighter than most other car seats as most infant car seats weigh between 9 to 12 pounds.
