In 2017, both manufacturers stepped up the competition by releasing new models. While UPPAbaby introduced new fabrics, leather details and a reduced size, Baby Jogger launched an upgraded version of its stroller. The City Select LUX offers more luxurious fabrics, a 30 percent smaller fold and better maneuverability than the original stroller—making the rivalry even closer.
So which one is best for your family? Strolleria will help you decide in this UPPAbaby VISTA vs. City Select LUX comparison covering the benefits and drawbacks of each stroller, product differences, configurations, car seat compatibility and more.
Considering Baby Jogger's original stroller, too? Check out the UPPAbaby VISTA vs. City Select comparison here.
First, we'll give an overview of the VISTA and City Select LUX.
The UPPAbaby VISTA offers superior quality and ease of use, between its three-year warranty, an oversized storage basket accommodating up to 30 pounds, and one-click compatibility with the UPPAbaby MESA infant car seat and bassinet, the latter of which is included with your stroller purchase.
Kids can face you, face each other or face the world in the Baby Jogger City Select LUX, the convertible stroller with 20 seating combinations. Quick-fold technology, a decelerating hand brake and a bench seat accessory that accommodates a 65-pound child are among the features unique to this stroller.
Learn about the differences between the LUX and its predecessor, which retails for $100 less, in this Baby Jogger City Select vs. City Select LUX comparison.
The VISTA costs $210-$270 more than the City Select LUX but comes with a bassinet, bumper bar, rain cover and bug cover, bassinet bug cover and bassinet storage bag. All accessories are sold separately with the City Select LUX.
For both strollers, the second seat is sold separately and includes the components needed to attach the seat to the stroller frame.
Parents using the VISTA as a double stroller may need to purchase the upper adapter and/or lower adapter ($19.99 each). The adapters are required to create space for the infant car seat or bassinet when the stroller is in double mode.
The VISTA is 4 pounds lighter as a single stroller and 5 pounds lighter as a double stroller, compared with the City Select LUX.
The City Select LUX has a higher weight capacity for the secondary seat: 45 pounds, compared to the 35-pound limit on the second seat for the VISTA, called the RumbleSeat. The City Select LUX can also be used with a bench seat that extends the weight capacity to 65 pounds.
With 20 different seating configurations, the City Select LUX offers more configurations than any stroller on the market. In addition to configurations with stroller seats, infant car seats and bassinets, the City Select LUX can also be used with a bench seat that accommodates children up to 65 pounds, extending your use of the stroller with older kids. The bench seat works only with the LUX, not the original City Select.
Unlike the VISTA, the City Select LUX also allows kids to face each other because the second seat is positioned on top of the front wheels, creating more space for both seats. (Arguably, the VISTA has better maneuverability because its second seat sits behind the front wheels.)
Here's a closer look at the configurations for each stroller.
VISTA configurations include:
The City Select LUX offers these configurations:
The VISTA and City Select LUX fold in different ways. The VISTA folds with triggers incorporated into the frame of the stroller, while folding the City Select LUX involves pulling up on plastic levers on both sides of the stroller.
Each stroller has pros and cons when it comes to folding. The VISTA self-stands when folded to prevent the fabric from getting dirty, a feature not included with the City Select LUX.
A pro for the City Select LUX is that its stroller seats can be folded in half for a more compact fold. A downside, though, is that some parents complain that the folding mechanisms can get stuck, making for a more difficult fold.
Watch the videos to see how each stroller folds.
To fold the VISTA, extend the handlebar so the stroller can rest on it. Pull back on the triggers, holding the bumper bar to guide the stroller until it locks in place. Adjust the footrest for a more compact fold.
Although the VISTA technically folds with both seats attached, most parents find it too heavy and bulky to do so. Remove the RumbleSeat before folding the single stroller.
While this video shows the original City Select, the City Select LUX folds similarly, but with the addition of foldable seats. Remove the second seat, then the second seat adapters. Lift the levers on both side of the stroller until the stroller auto-locks.
Both strollers are compatible with infant car seats from numerous brands. The UPPAbaby MESA infant car seat attaches directly to the frame of the VISTA, while Baby Jogger's car seat, the City GO, requires adapters to attach to the City Select LUX.
With the exception of the UPPAbaby MESA, which connects directly to the frame, the VISTA uses adapters to connect with:
With adapters sold separately, the City Select is compatible with:
So which stroller is better: the UPPAbaby VISTA or the City Select LUX? Only you can decide which one is right for you, but here are the benefits and drawbacks we see.
The VISTA wins for its quality, warranty and weight, along with its ease of use from birth. The UPPAbaby MESA infant car seat attaches directly to the frame, while a bassinet included with your purchase is approved for overnight use. Some parents use the VISTA bassinet as baby's first bed with the bassinet stand, which later converts to a laundry hamper.
However, the VISTA is significantly more expensive than the City Select LUX, and it can be more difficult to use with older children because of a lower weight capacity on its second seat.
Compared with the VISTA, the City Select LUX is a more affordable option that can also buy you more time using a double stroller. The City Select LUX is a popular choice for families with older toddlers, thanks to a higher weight capacity on both its second seat and bench seat accessory. But the VISTA beats the City Select LUX for its warranty, quality, weight and included accessories.
