UPPAbaby Vista vs. City Select LUX Stroller Comparison

For more than a decade, the UPPAbaby Vista and Baby Jogger City Select have been the most popular convertible strollers: single strollers that can expand to include a second seat when your family grows.

The City Select LUX offers more luxurious fabrics, a 30 percent smaller fold and better maneuverability than the original stroller—making the rivalry even closer.

So which one is best for your family? We'll help you decide in this UPPAbaby Vista vs. City Select LUX comparison covering the benefits and drawbacks of each stroller, product differences, configurations, car seat compatibility and more.

Note that as of 2021, Baby Jogger has replaced both the City Select and City Select LUX with the upgraded City Select 2. See the differences between the three Baby Jogger models in this comparison.

Let's take a look at the City Select Lux and the UPPAbaby Vista V2.

UPPAbaby Vista V2 vs. City Select Lux Configurations

With 20 different seating configurations, the City Select LUX offers more configurations than any stroller on the market. In addition to configurations with stroller seats, infant car seats and bassinets, the City Select LUX can also be used with a bench seat that accommodates children up to 65 pounds, extending your use of the stroller with older kids. The bench seat works only with the LUX, not the original City Select.

Unlike the Vista V2, the City Select LUX also allows kids to face each other because the second seat is positioned on top of the front wheels, creating more space for both seats. (Arguably, the Vista V2 has better maneuverability because its second seat sits behind the front wheels, which allows the wheels to turn more freely.)

Both strollers can also accommodate a third child when you add a skateboard-like attachment, the UPPAbaby Piggyback or Baby Jogger Glider Board.

How to Fold UPPAbaby Vista V2 vs. City Select LUX

The Vista V2 and City Select LUX fold in different ways. The Vista V2 folds with triggers incorporated into the frame of the stroller, while folding the City Select LUX involves pulling up on plastic levers on both sides of the stroller.

Each stroller has pros and cons when it comes to folding. The Vista V2 self-stands when folded to prevent the fabric from getting dirty, a feature not included with the City Select LUX.

A pro for the City Select LUX is that its stroller seats can be folded in half for a more compact fold. A downside, though, is that some parents complain that the folding mechanisms can get stuck, making for a more difficult fold.

Watch the videos to see how each stroller folds.

    UPPAbaby Vista V2

To fold the Vista V2, extend the handlebar so the stroller can rest on it. Pull back on the triggers, holding the bumper bar to guide the stroller until it locks in place. Adjust the footrest for a more compact fold.

Although the Vista V2 technically folds with both seats attached, most parents find it too heavy and bulky to do so. Remove the RumbleSeat before folding the single stroller.

    Baby Jogger City Select LUX

The City Select LUX folds with the seat facing either direction, and the seat itself also folds in half for a more compact fold. Lift the levers on both side of the stroller until the stroller collapses and locks automatically. A crossbar within the frame makes it easier to fold the stroller.

To fold the stroller when it's configured as a double, remove the second seat, then the second seat adapters before folding.

Car Seats Compatible with UPPAbaby Vista V2 and City Select LUX

Both strollers are compatible with infant car seats from numerous brands. The UPPAbaby Mesa infant car seat attaches directly to the frame of the Vista V2, while Baby Jogger's car seat, the City GO, requires adapters purchased separately to attach to the City Select LUX.

UPPAbaby Vista V2 vs. City Select LUX Pros and Cons

So which stroller is better: the UPPAbaby Vista V2 or the City Select LUX? Only you can decide which one is right for you, but here are the benefits and drawbacks we see.

    UPPAbaby Vista V2

Uppababy Vista vs City Select Lux

The Vista V2 wins for its quality, warranty and weight, along with its ease of use from birth. The UPPAbaby Mesa infant car seat attaches directly to the frame, while a bassinet included with your purchase is approved for overnight use. Some parents use the Vista V2 bassinet as baby's first bed with the bassinet stand, which later converts to a laundry hamper.

However, the Vista V2 is significantly more expensive than the City Select LUX, and it can be more difficult to use with older children because of a lower weight capacity on its second seat.

    Benefits

    • Comes with several included accessories, including a bassinet approved for overnight sleeping
    • UPPAbaby Mesa infant car seat attaches directly to the frame and quickly detaches with the press of a button on the top of the handle
    • Made with less plastic, the Vista V2 is 4 to 5 pounds lighter than the City Select LUX in both single and double mode
    • Folding triggers are sturdier than folding mechanisms on the City Select LUX
    • With Infant SnugSeat accessory, toddler seat can be used from birth
    • Storage basket with 30-pound weight limit is larger than most on the market
    • Three-year warranty is the best in the business
    • Canopies include large, ventilated top panels and a zip-out sunshade extension for complete sun protection
    • Some colors feature leather handlebar, compared to plastic handlebar for City Select LUX

    Drawbacks

    • Price is $300+ more than City Select LUX
    • Less accommodating for older children, with a RumbleSeat that holds up to 35 pounds (compared with 45 pounds for the LUX) and no bench seat option
    • Seats can't be configured to face each other, as is the case with the City Select LUX
    • Toddler seat and RumbleSeat are not interchangeable, unlike the identical seats on the City select LUX
    • Additional upper and lower adapters required for double stroller configurations with an infant car seat or bassinet
    • Some parents don't want a bassinet, but it comes in the same box as the stroller

    Baby Jogger City Select LUX

Uppababy Vista vs City Select Lux

Compared with the Vista V2, the City Select LUX is a more affordable option that can also buy you more time using a double stroller. The City Select LUX is a popular choice for families with older toddlers, thanks to a higher weight capacity on both its second seat and bench seat accessory. But the Vista V2 beats the City Select LUX for its warranty, quality, weight and included accessories.

    Benefits

    • Costs $300+ less than Vista V2
    • Stroller offers several more configurations than the Vista V2, including those in which two kids can face each other and those including the bench seat for older kids
    • Better at accommodating older children compared to the Vista V2 with a 45-pound weight limit on both stroller seats (compared to 50 pounds and 35 pounds for Vista V2 seats) and a bench seat with a 65-pound limit
    • Two stroller seats are interchangeable, unlike the Vista V2, which has two seats of different sizes
    • Bench seat and shopping tote accessories are not available for Vista V2
    • Hand brake allows for deceleration on hills
    • No adapters required for double configurations, unlike the Vista V2

    Drawbacks

    • Adapters required for use with any infant car seat
    • Weighs 4 to 5 pounds more than Vista V2 in single and double mode
    • Folding mechanism can get stuck, making stroller more difficult to fold
    • Does not come with belly bars or any other included accessories
    • Parts have a one-year warranty (lifetime warranty for frame), compared with three years for Vista V2
    • Handlebar is plastic instead of leather-covered handlebar of Vista V2
