Baby Jogger City Select 2 vs. City Select and City Select Lux Stroller Comparison
Is the Baby Jogger City Select 2 a new version of the City Select or City Select Lux? Both!
The City Select 2, launched in July 2021, combines elements of Baby Jogger's popular single-to-double strollers and replaces both previous models.
While there won't be a City Select Lux 2, the new stroller offers two price points: a base model and an upgraded Eco Collection version with Tencel performance fabrics and leatherette details.
The City Select 2 is lighter than both the City Select and City Select Lux, with an updated design and branding that gives it a more sophisticated look.
But it retains the same features of the previous models—offering two dozen configurations for a growing family, with more space between seats than most double strollers on the market.
With the new stroller, the previous models have been discontinued. If you're considering an older stroller, check out our City Select vs. City Select Lux comparison.
In this post, we'll review the differences between the City Select 2, City Select and City Select Lux strollers.

City Select 2 vs. City Select Lux and City Select Colors and Materials
The Eco Collection versions of the City Select 2 offer upgraded fabrics not seen on previous models.
Tencel fibers are environmentally-friendly, produced from sustainably-sourced wood, and offer a number of benefits for kids, too: The fabrics are soft and gentle on skin, anti-bacterial, and breathable to help regulate your child's temperature.
Plus, the Eco Collection offers an upgraded look, too—adding a leatherette handlebar and bumper bar to the stroller for the first time.
Like the City Select and City Select Lux, the base model City Select 2 has a plastic PVC handlebar, with seat fabrics made of polyester and nylon.
The base City Select 2 comes in a few colors, featuring a matching seat and canopy, while the Eco Collection offers four choices, each with a black seat and leatherette details.
Both versions of the City Select 2 come with a black frame for a sleek look, while the City Select has a silver frame.
City Select 2 vs. City Select Lux and City Select Wheels and Maneuverability
New for the City Select 2, all four wheels are now made with polyurethane—a more durable polymer that's ideal for varied terrain, seen only on the front wheels of the previous models.
The City Select 2 offers front-wheel suspension, as does the original City Select. The Lux version has suspension in all four wheels for added maneuverability.
Also new for the City Select 2 is a foot brake, which parents may find easier to use than the hand brake included on the prior Select and Lux models.
Wheels and Suspension
- City Select 2: polyurethane foam-filled; front-wheel suspension
- City Select Lux: polyurethane foam-filled, rubber foam-filled (rear); all-wheel suspension
- City Select: polyurethane foam-filled (front); rubber foam-filled (rear); front-wheel suspension
City Select 2 vs. City Select Lux and City Select Configurations
All three City Select models are among the most versatile strollers on the market, adapting from a single stroller to a double and even a ride for three kids if you attach a glider board.
For all models, the upper and lower seats each hold 45 pounds and are interchangeable—compared to other convertible strollers with different-sized seats and uneven weight limits. When a second child comes along, you can simply move the seat to the lower position (with second seat adapters) and add a car seat or bassinet for your newborn on top.
In the City Select series seats, your kids can face you, face forward, sit back-to-back or even face each other, as the stroller offers more space between seats than most double strollers.
The City Select Lux offers four configurations that aren't possible for the City Select 2 or City Select: Only the Lux model is compatible with the bench seat, an accessory that allows an older child up to 65 pounds to ride along. The bench seat, now discontinued, won't fit the City Select 2.
How to Fold Baby Jogger City Select 2 vs. City Select Lux and City Select
All three strollers use the same quick-folding technology: Simply pull the triggers on each side, and the stroller collapses in half and can stand when folded.
For the City Select Lux, the seats themselves also fold in half, providing additional space savings.
The City Select and City Select 2 have the same fold.

Accessories Compatible with Baby Jogger City Select 2 vs. City Select Lux and City Select
A City Select series stroller can be customized to your family's needs by adding accessories like a cup holder, snack tray or glider board for an older child to ride along.
The City Select 2, City Select and City Select Lux are compatible with these accessories:
- Pram bassinet
- Glider board
- Weather shield
- Parent console
- Belly bar (included with City Select 2 Eco Collection versions)
- Child tray for City Select/City Select 2 or child tray for City Select Lux
- Footmuff
- Carry bag
These components are not interchangeable between the City Select 2 and older models:
- The second seats are specific to each stroller, so a City Select 2 seat can't be used on a City Select, and vice versa.

- Baby Jogger makes separate snack trays for the City Select/City Select 2 and the City Select Lux.
