How to Turn the Bugaboo Kangaroo Into a Double Stroller
One of the best things about the Bugaboo Kangaroo is that it easily converts to a double stroller when you are ready! Plus with the exception of the bassinet adapter, you do not need to purchase any additional adapters.
Let's take a closer look at the Kangaroo's different components and double configurations plus what's needed:
Bugaboo Kangaroo Components
Bugaboo Kangaroo Main Seat, Sibling Seat, and Bassinet
First of all, the Bugaboo Kangaroo has two different seats - the main seat that fits on the top and the sibling seat that fits on the bottom. The sibling seat is a bit smaller than the main seat, and has a 40 pound weight limit. The seats are not interchangeable, meaning, the main seat only fits on the top and the sibling seat only fits on the bottom.
To make it simple, Bugaboo has added a little tag on each seat labeling them. There is one tally on the tag on the main seat, and two tallies on the tag on the sibling seat.
The Bugaboo Kangaroo also comes with an amazing bassinet. The aerated mattress has an antibacterial finish for next-level protection. And the breezy bassinet panels help regulate their temperature while letting them take in new sights and sounds.
Changing the Frame to Double Mode
Changing the Kangaroo into double mode is simple! First remove the main seat if it's on the frame. You will see the converter piece - the piece that the main seat is connected to. Next, remove the converter by unclicking each side. Then, lift it off, turn it around, and click it back onto the frame.
In double mode, the converter brings the main seat closer to the parent to allow more room for the sibling seat. In single mode, the main seat is a little further away from the parent.
Once in double mode, there is a green dot located on the converter on top of an icon of two children. This easily shows you the stroller is ready for two children. There is a red dot located on the other side of the converter on top of an icon of one child. When the converter is in the single mode position, the dots will signify this with a green dot above the one child, and a red dot above two children. You can see the converter and the colored dots below:
To get the stroller frame ready for the sibling seat on the bottom, remove the small pieces on each side as seen in the photo below (you can save these for when you want to use the stroller as a single to go back in the holes). The sibling seat adapters click right into those holes. Note that the sibling seat only fits on the bottom.
Configurations
The Bugaboo Kangaroo offers over 20 configurations. Below are three of the most popular configurations, and instructions on how to achieve the configuration.
Bassinet on Top; Sibling Seat on Bottom
The Bugaboo Kangaroo is one of few tandems that allow a bassinet on top for your newborn, and a sibling seat on bottom for your toddler to experience the sights and views!
In this double configuration you'll need the "Upper Newborn Adapter," which will move the bassinet closer to you to create more room for the sibling seat. To connect this adapter, simply remove the main seat if it's connected. You'll then use the same seat frame of that main seat for the bassinet fabric that comes included with your stroller. Once the bassinet is set up, unclick the converter, flip it around to double mode, and click it back on the stroller frame. Once on, click the Upper Newborn Adapter on top, followed by the bassinet.
The sibling seat attaches to the bottom of the frame by removing two pieces from each corner of the frame. Once removed, you put the sibling seat adapters (they come with the sibling seat purchase) in and the seat easily clicks in! The sibling seat can face in or out.
Car Seat on Top; Sibling Seat on Bottom
Another popular configuration with a newborn and a toddler is to click in a compatible car seat. Great news! The Bugaboo Kangaroo works with a compatible car seat on the top and the sibling seat on the bottom. To attach the included car seat adapters in double mode, remove the main seat. Turn around the converter to double mode. Then click the post adapters in on each side. Next, click in your compatible car seat!
Attach the sibling seat the same way as above.
Main Seat on Top; Sibling Seat on Bottom
Once your little one is past the bassinet or car seat phase, you're ready to have two regular stroller seats on the stroller! To achieve this configuration, simply remove the main seat, remove the converter, turn the converter around to double mode, and click the main seat back in. The main seat can face you or face the world! The sibling seat easily attaches on the bottom of the frame - in or out - and you're ready to go!
Questions?
The Bugaboo Kangaroo is one of the easiest single-to-double strollers available. The only optional adapter you might consider is the Upper Newborn Adapter. The Kangaroo offers the configurations most families want: baby on top and toddler on bottom. This setup can be achieved with either the bassinet or a compatible car seat on top, and then easily transitioned to two stroller seats as your family grows! The versatility of this beautiful stroller is amazing!
