Can I run with the UPPAbaby Cruz?

Can I jog with the Uppababy Cruz

The UPPAbaby Cruz is not a jogging stroller and is not intended for running.

While the Cruz is designed with durable, foam-filled rubber tires with front wheels that can lock or swivel depending on the terrain, we do not recommend running or jogging with the UPPAbaby Cruz for a number of reasons. Let's take a look at what features commonly seen on jogging strollers are not seen on the Cruz.

What is a jogging stroller?

When shopping for jogging strollers, you will see a few common features:

  • Large, air-filled tires similar to bicycle tires
  • A stroller seat that is built into the frame of the stroller (rather than a seat that can be parent or forward-facing like that on the Cruz)
  • A frame with sleek, aerodynamic design
  • A single front wheel that can be locked to prevent dangerous swerving when moving at higher speeds

Strolleria recommends running with a stroller that has been designed and tested for jogging because the higher level of impact and speed puts unique demands on the frame of your stroller.

Is it safe to run with the UPPAbaby Cruz?

While it may sound convenient or more cost-effective to use the same stroller for both your strolls and jogging, the UPPAbaby Cruz is not a jogging stroller for a few key reasons.

The Cruz comes with a toddler seat that can be removed with the click of a button and turned to face you or the world. Unlike the seat on a jogging stroller, the seat of the Cruz is not built into the stroller frame but rather attaches at two points on the side of the frame. As a result, the Cruz seat is not designed to move smoothly with the stroller at higher speeds, so your child will feel bumps and jostling while running.

While foam-filled rubber wheels on the Cruz are certainly low-maintenance, you'll need much larger, air-filled tires of a jogging stroller to properly absorb impact. Air-filled tires on a jogging stroller will provide a safe, comfortable ride with noticeably better shock absorption than a stroller with foam-filled rubber or plastic wheels.

The UPPAbaby Cruz is a great choice for your everyday stroller, thanks to its smooth-strolling wheels and lightweight frame. while being durable enough to handle walking over bumpy terrain. Locking the front wheels will make it easier to push the Cruz over uneven ground such as sandy beaches or cobblestone streets.

However, if you plan to run with your child, we recommend choosing a secondary stroller designed specifically for jogging to ensure that you and your child are safe and comfortable.
