Bugaboo Kangaroo vs. Bugaboo Donkey5 | Stroller Comparison
Established in 1999, Bugaboo has revolutionized the stroller market with its commitment to blending cutting-edge design with functional versatility. Known for their sleek aesthetics and robust build, Bugaboo strollers cater to the modern family's need for practicality and luxury.
New to Bugaboo in late summer 2024, the Bugaboo Kangaroo is Bugaboo's second single to double stroller, but first ever tandem single to double stroller. The Kangaroo expands with stadium style seats!
Bugaboo is known for their unique Donkey stroller, which with three simple clicks, expands from single to double sideways! Stroller seats, bassinets and infant car seats can be used in any combination to create one of the highest-quality double strollers on the market.
In this article, we'll explore the key differences between the exciting, new Bugaboo Kangaroo and the well-loved Bugaboo Donkey5. Both strollers convert from holding 1 to 3 children, but this comparison will help you decide what one's the best fit for your family's lifestyle and needs!
Bugaboo Kangaroo
The Bugaboo Kangaroo is the single-to-double stroller that adapts to your family. Whether in newborn stroller mode or adjusted to carry two or even three kids, the suspension system and extra-large shock-absorbing wheels provide the smoothest, most comfortable strolls, wherever you go. Engineered for ease, it’s quick to convert into the perfect setup for your family. Choose from over 20 configurations available when combined with dedicated accessories (all sold separately).
One of the best parts of the Bugaboo Kangaroo is the ability to keep your newborn close to you with the upper newborn adapter! This allows the bassinet to go on top while your toddler takes in the views from the bottom front seat. Plus, you can bring a third kid along with the Bugaboo comfort wheeled board.
Bugaboo Donkey5
The Bugaboo Donkey5 is one of the only strollers that expands side-by-side, which allows for better weight distribution, easier access to your kids, and more legroom and recline options for toddlers. The stroller has an included bassinet, four large all-terrain tires, and lots of carrying capacity thanks to a side luggage basket.
As one of the only strollers that converts from a single to a side-by-side double, the Donkey5 is easier to push, turn, and get over curbs than many tandem style convertible strollers since the weight is distributed evenly across the stroller.
It's called the Donkey for a reason: The Donkey5 packs 44 pounds of storage, between a roomy underseat basket and a side basket (for single mode) ideal for groceries and shopping bags. Top-of-the-line materials and large wheels with all-wheel suspension make the Donkey5 the smoothest of rides for baby and parent, no matter how rugged the terrain gets!

Bugaboo Kangaroo vs. Bugaboo Donkey5 Configurations
Both the Bugaboo Kangaroo and Bugaboo Donkey5 can expand from a single to a double stroller. They both can actually accommodate up to THREE children with an optional ride along board for an older child to sit or stand on.
The major difference is that the Kangaroo is built for two siblings of different ages, whereas the Donkey5 is a beautiful set-up for twins and can accommodate any combination of 1-2 stroller seats, bassinets, or infant car seats. The Kangaroo cannot have two bassinets or car seats. Due to this the Donkey5 has more combinations (30+ with car seat and wheeled board) than the Kangaroo (20+ with car seat and wheeled board).
The seats on the Bugaboo Kangaroo and Bugaboo Donkey5 are removable and reversible, allowing your child to face you when younger and face forward to explore the world later on. Both strollers can also be used with an infant car seat and bassinet.
The Bugaboo Kangaroo offers more than 20 configurations and even allows you to put the bassinet on top (using the upper newborn adapter) to keep a closer eye on your newborn.
A few of the Bugaboo Kangaroo configurations:
The Donkey5 has over 30 configurations and is perfect for twins or siblilngs. Besides ease of push, the advantage of the side by side seating of the Donkey is that it has seemingly limitless configurations and recline options. Toddlers can face parent, forward, or opposite directions and be as reclined back as much as they'd like without running into their sibling's seat. Side-by-side configurations mean parents can easily keep an eye on both children at once, from napping newborns to inquisitive toddlers. The seats are also identical - no fighting over who has what seat as no seat is “better” than the other! The second seat on the Donkey5 is as easy to access as the first seat since they are side by side, however, it does make the stroller wider.

What stroller is better? Bugaboo Kangaroo vs. Bugaboo Donkey5
So, which stroller is better? That really comes down to use. If you have twins, the Donkey5 will be a better fit. If you have two or three children of different ages, the Kangaroo may be for you! However, you may prefer the push of a side-by-side.
The other huge consideration is if you'd prefer a tandem or side-by-side double stroller. Both set-ups have their pros and cons! Tandem strollers are more narrow, but longer, whereas side-by-side are wider, but shorter. Tandem strollers are great for stores and fitting in more crowded spaces. Side-by-side strollers are great for longer walks outdoors, and steer easier with the weight distributed over the back wheels versus some of the weight out in front. Being able to see and attend to each child easily is a great pro too! Plus the equal seating arrangement is nice - less kicking and sibling fights.
Whether you purchase the Bugaboo Kangaroo or Bugaboo Donkey you're getting a premium, top of the line stroller with a smooth buttery push! You won't be disappointed!
