Baby Gear Scams on Amazon

Add to cart

In recent years, the rise of baby gear scams on Amazon has become a growing concern for parents, making it harder to distinguish genuine, high-quality products from counterfeit or fraud listings. At Strolleria, we understand how important it is for families to trust the products they purchase, which is why we want to raise awareness about the increasing prevalence of scams on Amazon. From fake product listings to deceptive reviews, we'll highlight a few key red flags to watch out for, so parents can make informed decisions when shopping for baby gear!

Common Red Flags

When shopping for baby gear on Amazon, there are several common scams and red flags that parents should be aware of. Here are some of the most prevalent scams:

Third-Party Seller Fraud

The most common scam is when the item is sold from a third-party seller - not Amazon - that offer the product at an unusually low price, often too good to be true. ALWAYS look at who the seller is and who it is shipping from. If it's fraudulent, it will usually have a strange seller/shipper name, plus often times bad or no reviews. Pay attention to those!

Most times, these products never arrive, or if you do get a package, it's a completely different product.

This has commonly been seen with UPPAbaby products.

Fake or Counterfeit Products

Some sellers list items that look like popular baby gear brands but are actually counterfeit or subpar imitations. These products may appear identical in photos, but the quality can be dangerously compromised, with materials that don’t meet safety standards.

This has commonly been seen with Veer products.

Misleading Product Listings

Scammers may use deceptive tactics in their product descriptions to mislead buyers. For example, a listing may promise features that the product doesn't actually have, such as claiming a stroller is "newborn-ready" when it’s not, or misrepresenting the size, weight, or safety features.

Fake or Inflated Reviews

Many scam products come with overly positive reviews that are artificially inflated through paid review services or fake accounts. This can make it difficult for parents to differentiate between trustworthy products and those that are simply designed to manipulate the Amazon rating system.

Product Listing Hijacking

In this scam, a fraudulent seller takes over a legitimate product listing from a well-known brand and changes the product details to sell a counterfeit or cheaper version. This can confuse buyers into thinking they are purchasing the authentic product, only to receive a fake. Again, always check the seller/shipper's name! This has happened before to Veer.

To avoid these scams, it’s essential to carefully read product reviews, verify the seller's reputation, check for proper certification and safety labels, and consider purchasing directly from reputable retailers like Strolleria.

At Strolleria, we prioritize quality and customer safety, ensuring that every product we offer is genuine and meets the highest standards! We are listed on each brand's authorized seller's page so you can be sure your product is coming from the intended brand, legitimate, and most importantly safe!
