What Adapters Do I Need for the UPPAbaby Vista? | Adapter Guide

The UPPAbaby Vista V2 is one of the most versatile strollers on the market, with its ability to accommodate two kids and several different infant car seats. But that also makes the Vista a bit confusing when you're trying to determine which adapters you need for the stroller.

If you're using the UPPAbaby Vista with an infant car seat other than the UPPAbaby Mesa, Mesa V2, or Mesa Max models, you'll need a car seat adapter. No adapters are needed to attach the Mesa series to the Vista single stroller, however, any double configuration requires the purchase of at least one adapter.

If you're using the UPPAbaby Vista as a double stroller, you'll need to get the upper adapter and, in some cases, the lower adapter to create space for most double configurations.

**UPPAbaby redesigned the lower adapters in early 2024 streamlining them to make them fit the bassinet, car seat, AND new updated RumbleSeat. They will not work with the previous model RumbleSeat. The previous model lower adapter and RumbleSeat are available for a limited time.**

In this post, we'll explain which adapters you need to attach your infant car seat to the UPPAbaby Vista, as well as the adapters needed for using the Vista as a double stroller for two kids.

Car Seats Compatible with the UPPAbaby Vista

The UPPAbaby Mesa series of infant car seats are the only models that fit the UPPAbaby Vista without the need for car seat adapters when you're using the Vista as a single stroller. With the purchase of adapters (linked below), you can also use car seats from several other brands on your Vista stroller.

The UPPAbaby Vista and Vista V2 from model years 2015-present is compatible with these infant car seats:

  • UPPAbaby Mesa, Mesa V2, Mesa Max (no adapters needed)
  • Chicco KeyFit, KeyFit30 and Fit2 (with adapter)
  • Clek Liing (with adapters)
  • Cybex Aton series (with adapters, not compatible with Cloud Q)
  • Maxi-Cosi Mico 30, Mico Max 30, Mico XP Max, Mico AP, Mico NXT, Mico, Citi, Cabrio and CabrioFix (with adapters)
  • Nuna PIPA models (with ring adapter by Nuna or post adapters by UPPAbaby)
  • Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 4-35, 4-35 Nido, and 4-35 Lounge (with adapters)

Later in this post, we'll explain how to use these car seats on the Vista double stroller and the additional adapters you may need.

See the video below for an overview of infant car seats that fit the Vista.

Adapters for the UPPAbaby Vista Double Stroller

If you're needing to convert your UPPAbaby Vista V2 single stroller into a double, you'll need to purchase adapters—and for many configurations, you'll also need to purchase the RumbleSeat.

The seat that came with your single stroller is called the Toddler Seat, which only fits on the upper position and holds a 50-pound child. The RumbleSeat V2+ only fits on the lower position and has a weight capacity of 40 pounds. The previous RumbleSeat (2015-2023 model) held 35 pounds. The RumbleSeat V2+ will fit on any Vista from 2015 to present.

See our post on the UPPAbaby Vista Toddler Seat vs. RumbleSeat for more details.

For many double configurations of the Vista, the upper adapter is required to create more space between the two seats. The lower adapter is also needed if you're using a bassinet or car seat on the lower position. The RumbleSeat V2+ includes the lower adapters needed to attach the smaller seat to the front of the Vista's frame OR to attach the bassinet or car seat. The 2015-2023 model RumbleSeat came with its own unique adapters that only worked for the RumbleSeat. The lower adapters were an additional purchase and worked to attach the bassinet or car seat to the lower position.

**The new lower adapters that attach the RumbleSeat V2+, bassinet, or car seat to the lower position will NOT work with the 2015-2023 model RumbleSeat.**

We'll explain which adapters you need for each Vista double configuration in the next sections.

See below for a video overview of the Vista's double configurations and adapters.

Upper Adapter for UPPAbaby Vista Double Stroller

The upper adapter raises the toddler seat or infant car seat on your stroller to create the space necessary for most of the Vista's double stroller configurations.

The upper adapter is used for these double configurations described below:

  • Infant car seat in upper position + RumbleSeat in lower position (required)
  • Toddler seat in upper position + RumbleSeat in lower position (recommended but often creates more leg space without them)
  • Toddler seat in upper position + bassinet in lower position (required)
  • Two infant car seats (required)
  • Two bassinets (required)

Infant car seat + RumbleSeat (upper adapter required)

The upper adapter is required for raising the car seat higher on the stroller so that the stroller can accommodate two seats. No matter what type of car seat you have, you'll need the upper adapter if you want to use the car seat on the upper position with the RumbleSeat on the lower position.

When the infant car seat is in the upper position, the RumbleSeat can face either direction on the lower position.

If you have an UPPAbaby Mesa, Mesa V2, or Mesa Max infant car seat, attach it to the upper adapter to provide space for the RumbleSeat.

If you have an infant car seat from a brand other than UPPAbaby, attach your brand's adapter to the upper adapter.

However, if you have a car seat from Nuna, Maxi-Cosi, Cybex or Clek, you also have an alternative option. As of 2020, UPPAbaby now makes an upper car seat adapter for these brands—one that both creates space and attaches the car seat. (You'll still need the upper adapter for other configurations, though.)

In the next sections, we'll review the specific adapters needed for your car seat.

Toddler Seat + RumbleSeat (upper adapter recommended, not needed)

Both seats will fit on the Vista without the upper adapter, and many parents of older children have found the top rider actually has more space for their legs without using them. However, the upper adapters may help prevent siblings from kicking each other and give your top rider a better view. It's your call on whether you want to use upper adapters in this position.

Note that the toddler seat and RumbleSeat are not interchangeable. The toddler seat, which is designed only to fit the top position, holds 50 pounds, while the RumbleSeat V2+ for the bottom position accommodates 40 pounds. The 2015-2023 RumbleSeat holds 35 pounds.

Both the upper and lower adapters are required for this configuration. Note that the bassinet will only fit on the bottom position when you are also using the toddler seat and that the toddler seat must be facing the parent.

Lower Adapter for UPPAbaby Vista Double Stroller

The lower adapter allows you to attach a bassinet or infant car seat to the lower position of your double stroller. Without it, some double configurations are not possible.

In 2024, UPPAbaby came out with the RumbleSeat V2+ that comes with these same lower adapters. These new lower adapters will allow you to attach all the RumbleSeat V2+, bassinet, or infant car seat to the lower position. The previous lower adapter only attaches the bassinet or car seat.

You'll need the lower adapter for these double configurations:

  • Toddler seat in upper position + bassinet in lower position
  • Toddler seat in upper position + infant car seat in lower position
  • Two bassinets
  • Two infant car seats

Toddler Seat + bassinet (upper and lower adapters required)

Both the upper and lower adapters are required for this configuration. Note that the bassinet will only fit on the bottom position when you are also using the toddler seat.

If your older child exceeds the 40-pound weight limit for the RumbleSeat, they'll need to sit in the toddler seat in the upper position. You'd need both the upper and lower adapters to use the infant car seat in the lower position.

How to use the UPPAbaby Vista for Twins

The UPPAbaby Vista is a popular double stroller for parents expecting twins, as it is easy to attach two infant car seats, two bassinets, and later two stroller seats while enjoying lots of storage space and smooth steering that the Vista provides. Watch this video to see how the UPPAbaby Vista can be configured for twins:

How to use a car seat on the UPPAbaby Vista Double Stroller

Regardless of which car seat you have, you'll need adapters when using a car seat on the Vista double stroller. We'll explain these adapters in more detail below.

Nuna car seat adapter for UPPAbaby Vista

If you're using a Nuna PIPA series infant car seat on your Vista, you have choices for the adapters you'll need.

Nuna manufactures a ring-shaped adapter that allows you to simply drop the car seat on top of the adapter. With this adapter, the PIPA detaches with one hand when you press a large button on the back. That makes it easier to use than non-ring-shaped adapters, which require you to press the two buttons on the side of the car seat to release it. Despite its larger size, the adapter still folds with the stroller.

The adapter manufactured by UPPAbaby for Nuna car seats consists of two posts and folds with the stroller. This adapter is a two-in-one, serving as both the upper adapter and the car seat adapter.

Using a Nuna car seat on the upper position (for double stroller)

To use the Nuna ring adapter on the Vista double, first attach the upper adapter, then place the Nuna adapter on top.

You'll only need a single adapter for this configuration if you purchase the upper car seat adapter made by UPPAbaby, which serves as both the upper adapter and the connection for your car seat.

However, the upper car seat adapter only fits the car seat. If you plan to use any other double configurations—like using the bassinet on the double stroller—you'll still need the upper adapter

Using a Nuna car seat on the lower position (for double stroller)

A separate lower car seat adapter for Nuna is available for using the car seat on the bottom position. Use this adapter if you are placing a Nuna car seat on the lower position because you won't need the UPPAbaby lower adapter in addition to this one.

If you are using the ring-shaped adapter, you will need both the ring adapter and the lower adapter to place the car seat on the lower position.

When using the car seat on the lower position, the upper adapter is still required in order to create the necessary space for the car seat.

See how to use these adapters on the UPPAbaby Vista in the video below.

    Maxi-Cosi adapter for UPPAbaby Vista

The Maxi-Cosi adapter for UPPAbaby strollers is compatible with the Maxi-Cosi Mico Max 30, Mico XP Max, Mico 30, Mico AP, Mico NXT, Pebble and CabrioFix. It is not compatible with the Maxi-Cosi Prezi.

Using a Maxi-Cosi car seat on the upper position (for double stroller)

The upper car seat adapter serves as both the upper adapter and the connection for your Maxi-Cosi car seat.

However, the upper car seat adapter only fits the car seat. You'll still need the upper adapter for other configurations, like for adding space between the Toddler Seat and RumbleSeat.

Using a Maxi-Cosi car seat on the lower position (for double stroller)

The lower car seat adapter for Maxi-Cosi both serves as the lower adapter and the connection for your Maxi-Cosi car seat.

However, the lower car seat adapter only fits the car seat. If you plan to use any other double configurations—like using the bassinet on the lower position—you'll still need the upper adapter and lower adapter.

    Cybex adapter for UPPAbaby Vista

The Cybex adapter for UPPAbaby strollers is compatible with all Cybex Aton series infant car seats such as the Aton 2 or Aton M. Due to how it reclines, the Cloud Q will not be compatible with the current adapter.

Using a Cybex car seat on the upper position (for double stroller)

The upper car seat adapter serves as both the upper adapter and the connection for your Cybex car seat.

However, the upper car seat adapter only fits the car seat. You'll still need the upper adapter for other configurations, like for adding space between the Toddler Seat and RumbleSeat.

Using a Cybex car seat on the lower position (for double stroller)

The lower car seat adapter for Cybex both serves as the lower adapter and the connection for your Cybex car seat.

However, the lower car seat adapter only fits the car seat. If you plan to use any other double configurations—like using the bassinet on the lower position—you'll still need the upper adapter and lower adapter.

    Chicco adapter for UPPAbaby Vista

The Chicco adapter is compatible with Chicco Keyfit and Fit2 series car seats.

Using a Chicco car seat on the upper position (for double stroller)

To use a Chicco car seat on the upper position when the Vista is a double stroller, you'll need to first attach the upper adapter, then place the Chicco adapter on top.

Using a Chicco car seat on the lower position (for double stroller)

To use a Chicco car seat on the lower position, you'll need to first attach the lower adapter, then place the Chicco adapter on top.

When using the car seat on the lower position, the upper adapter is still required in order to create the necessary space for the car seat.
