Nuna Demi Grow vs. Nuna MIXX Next Stroller Comparison

Nuna Demi Grow vs. Nuna MIXX Next Stroller Comparison

What are the differences between the Nuna Demi Grow and the Nuna MIXX Next strollers? The shortest answer is simple: While the MIXX Next is a single stroller, the Demi Grow expands alongside your family, accommodating two kids with an addition of a second seat.

But that doesn’t mean the choice between the two strollers is an easy one.

When you’re expecting your first child, it’s hard to decide when—or if—you’ll be adding a second. And even if you’re certain your family will someday include two kids, no one can predict whether both will be stroller-aged or have enough of an age gap that a double stroller isn’t necessary.

And expansion options aside, the Nuna Demi Grow and MIXX Next share many great features, like sturdy wheels and all-wheel suspension for any terrain, a reversible seat with a ventilated seatback, an ample sun canopy, and easy one-click compatibility with Nuna’s best-selling line of safe yet stylish PIPA infant car seats.

We’ll explain the differences, benefits and drawbacks between the two models in this comparison. This comparison references the most recent versions of both strollers: The Nuna MIXX Next was updated in early 2021 and the Nuna Demi Grow in late 2020.

Nuna Demi Grow vs. Nuna MIXX Next Stroller Comparison

Nuna Demi Grow

The Demi Grow is Nuna’s only stroller that can be converted into a ride for two. When your second child comes along, add another seat, car seat or bassinet for an instant double stroller.

The Demi Grow was most recently updated in 2022 to include a new Aire Protect canopy with built in bug cover and additional ventilation. In 2020, another functional change was made (a new magnetic buckle that makes it easier to harness your child in the seat) and one aesthetic change (brown leatherette details instead of black). Learn more about the latest updates in this 2021 vs. 2020 Demi Grow comparison and this 2022 vs. 2021 Demi Grow comparison.

The video below depicts the original Demi Grow, which has not undergone any other changes besides those described above.

Nuna MIXX Next

A best-seller for many years, the Nuna MIXX Next is a versatile single stroller that’s compact and easy to use, yet durable enough for any type of terrain.

Updated in early 2021, the MIXX Next folds more compactly, stands when folded for convenient lifting, and offers new wheels and suspension for a smoother ride. Like the Demi Grow, the MIXX Next also features Nuna's magnetic harness buckle.

Nuna Demi Grow vs. Nuna MIXX Next Price

As a more robust stroller that can expand into a double, the Nuna Demi Grow is priced $100 higher than the single Nuna MIXX Next.

Both the Demi Grow and MIXX Next come with the stroller seat and chassis and a ring car seat adapter. The Demi Grow also includes a second set of post-style car seat adapters.

Here are the prices for each model:

Is the expansion option and spare canopy on the Demi Grow worth the extra $150? If you expect that you may need a double stroller in the future, choosing a convertible option like the Nuna Demi Grow would likely represent a large cost savings over adding a second stroller later (double strollers can cost $400 to $2,000.)

Once baby #2 is on the way, you can spend $249.95 for a Demi Grow sibling seat—or to start off, simply pair your existing seat with a car seat on the upper or lower position of the stroller.

Nuna Demi Grow vs. Nuna MIXX Next Weight and Dimensions

The Demi Grow is a larger, sturdier stroller than the Nuna MIXX Next, considering it can support the weight of two kids up to a total of 100 pounds. The seat of the Demi Grow is also longer and slightly higher from the ground, helping to accommodate taller parents and kids.

The MIXX Next is about 3 pounds lighter and 7 inches shorter than the Demi Grow, making the stroller more compact when in use or when folded in the trunk of your car.

Stroller Weight

When configured as a single stroller, the Demi Grow is about 3 pounds heavier than the MIXX. Note that Nuna, like other manufacturers, sometimes weighs its products without the use of items like the canopy or seat insert. The figures below reflect the weight of each stroller with all included pieces.

  • MIXX Next: 29 pounds
  • Demi Grow: 32 pounds

Weight Capacity

  • MIXX Next: 50 pounds
  • Demi Grow: 50 pounds per seat

Dimensions

The Nuna MIXX Next is more compact than the Demi Grow, with a reduced length of nearly 7 inches.

  • MIXX Next: 32.7"L x 23.6"W x 45.3"H
  • Demi Grow: 39.5"L x 24"W x 43.5"H

Folded Dimensions

The Nuna MIXX Next has a smaller footprint when folded, thanks to a rear axle that allows the rear wheels to retract underneath the stroller. The two strollers also fold in different ways: The Nuna MIXX Next folds in half, low to the ground, and can be moved to a standing position, while the Demi Grow folds into a standing position.

  • MIXX: 27.5"L x 23.6"W x 19"H
  • Demi Grow: 23.5"L x 24"W x 35"H

Nuna Demi Grow vs. Nuna MIXX Next Seat and Canopy

The seats of the Nuna Demi Grow and MIXX Next share similarities, like a ventilated seatback, as well as differences, like their recline and sun coverage. The seat of the Demi Grow is also slightly taller and longer than the seat on the MIXX Next.

Canopy

Both models have the most generous sun coverage you'll find on a stroller, though in different ways. The MIXX canopy can be unzipped for complete coverage, while the Demi Grow has a "Sky Drape," similar to the covers seen on the Nuna PIPA car seats.

Seat Back

Both Nuna strollers offer unique features to help keep your child cool and comfortable in warm weather. On both models, an insert can be removed from the seat to reveal a mesh back, helping to add airflow and prevent sweaty backs.

Nuna Demi Grow vs. Nuna MIXX Stroller Comparison

Seat Size

The length of the Demi Grow seat is 2" longer than the MIXX Next, offering a bit more space for an older child to stretch his legs.

  • MIXX Next: 19" from seat to canopy, 17" from seat to footrest
  • Demi Grow: 19" from seat to canopy, 19" from seat to footrest

Seat Height

The Demi Grow is a favorite among tall parents because its seat is higher than most strollers, bringing baby closer to you. Measuring from floor to seat, the Demi Grow is 4" higher than the MIXX Next.

  • MIXX Next: 22" from floor to seat
  • Demi Grow: 26" from floor to seat

Seat Recline

Only the seat of the Nuna MIXX and MIXX Next offers a completely flat recline. The Demi Grow seat is newborn-safe but not fully flat, meaning the child's legs will be elevated when the seat is in its most-reclined position.

Nuna Demi Grow vs. Nuna MIXX Next Configurations

Both the Nuna Demi Grow and Nuna MIXX Next can be paired with a car seat or bassinet, and both feature a reversible stroller seat that can face you or face forward.

See the configurations of the MIXX Next below.

The Demi Grow is the only Nuna stroller that can expand into a double, making it Nuna’s most versatile option.

As a double stroller, the Demi Grow features a different design than most on the market. Instead of one seat in front of the other, as seen on tandem strollers like the UPPAbaby Vista, the Demi Grow seats are stacked one over the other. (See our Nuna Demi Grow vs. UPPAbaby Vista comparison here).

The stacked seats make the Demi Grow shorter and more maneuverable than other tandem double strollers, as the front wheels can move more freely without the weight of a child on top of them. It also allows the Demi Grow seats to be interchangeable between the upper and lower positions, whereas other strollers have a second seat that’s smaller than the primary seat.

The downside? The Demi Grow has limited storage basket space when a second child sits in the lower position. However, parents of a newborn and a 3-year-old, for example, may find that they use the Demi Grow as a single stroller on most days—but enjoy the option of converting to a double for long walks and trips to the zoo.

See the photo below for a look at how the Demi Grow can be used with up to two stroller seats, car seats or bassinets. While the upper seat can face either direction, the lower seat will always face forward, resting inside the basket space.

Nuna Demi Grow vs. Nuna MIXX Next Colors

Nuna Demi Grow vs. Nuna MIXX Next Bassinet

The bassinets sold separately for both the Nuna Demi Grow and the Nuna MIXX Next are similar in design and can be used for overnight sleeping as baby's first crib or a travel solution.

While Nuna offers the Demi Grow bassinet in the two colors that match the stroller, the MIXX bassinet is only available in Caviar Black. The MIXX stand and Demi Grow stand elevate the bassinet to your bedside and offer a lower storage area for diapers or other essentials.

Bassinets are designed specifically for each stroller model, so the MIXX bassinet does not fit the Demi Grow, and vice versa. The Demi Grow bassinet does not fit the MIXX stand, nor does the MIXX bassinet fit the Demi Grow stand.

Nuna Demi Grow vs. Nuna MIXX Next Fold

The Nuna Demi Grow and MIXX Next both stand when folded, sparing parents of having to bend to the floor to pick up the stroller.

The MIXX Next initially closes like a clamshell and can be rotated into a standing position for easier pickup. You can also trolley the stroller, suitcase-style, to transport it when folded. The more compact MIXX takes up less trunk space than the Demi Grow.

The Demi Grow folds directly into the standing position and includes a leatherette-wrapped carry handle integrated into the frame, which creates a more natural carrying position.

Car Seats Compatible with Nuna Demi Grow and Nuna MIXX Next

Both the Nuna Demi Grow and Nuna MIXX are compatible with Nuna’s PIPA series of car seats:

    • Nuna PIPA RX
    • Nuna PIPA Lite
    • Nuna PIPA Lite R
    • Nuna PIPA Lite LX
    • Nuna PIPA Lite RX

The Nuna ring adapter, included with the purchase of either stroller, makes attaching the car seat a snap (literally), so you can quickly attach and remove the seat using only one hand. The ring adapter is designed only for Nuna car seats, so car seats from other brands will not fit the MIXX Next or Demi Grow.

    Conclusion

The Demi Grow is heavier and more expensive, but it may spare you from having to buy an additional double stroller later if you’re planning to have at least two kids. Plus, in contrast to a designated double stroller, a convertible option like the Demi Grow also allows you to reduce your stroller to a single once your oldest is a full-time walker.

With either option, you’re choosing a high-quality, versatile and stylish stroller that will be a great companion for many strolls to come.
